Our mission at Smashing is to help the world be better informed by helping online readers discover the Internet’s most Worthwhile content on the topics they are interested in.
The first step in realizing that goal? Creating a platform for avid readers and content curators like yourself to discover and share Worthwhile content. While we believe in an algorithm’s ability to assist with the task, we strongly believe that content curation is best done when it begins and centers around the good-faith judgments of human readers. Or, as we call them, Curators.
Worthwhile content is an article—or other form of digital content including a podcast, tweet, video, data viz, or a TikTok—that, after you finish with it, you are genuinely glad that you interacted with it. What does that mean? The content proved itself to be worth your time based on your personal interests.
Through your act of sharing it and noting you found it to be Worthwhile on Smashing, you are signaling to other readers who may share similar interests to your own that it is also worth their time. It’s a kind of promise, or assurance, to other enthusiastic readers, and one not to be issued lightly. Your curation and Worthwhile votes will directly impact what content is highlighted and shown to other Smashing Curators.
We believe that a user’s time, and attention, are precious, and therefore are the right metric to judge content by, not popularity and superficial engagement. We are committed to partnering with Curators who share that belief.

I agree that Worthwhile votes are an expression of my personal and subjective judgment, made in a good faith effort to highlight content that is accurate, relevant, insightful, entertaining, and “worth my time.”
I agree to curate in good faith for others in the community since a community is only as good as its individual members.
I believe that having diverse perspectives on a topic strengthens our collective understanding of it and I will do my best to respect and encourage them to be added to Smashing even if I personally disagree them.
I believe that one’s attention, and time, is their most valuable resource. I am committed to making the most of it for myself and others through my contributions as a Smashing Curator.
I promise to always be a good steward of the community, and to never engage in hateful or harmful content.
